A Child's First Steps in Learning How To Read Parents and Parents-to-Be will learn about the process of learning how to read and the importance of reading to their children early in life. Class will cover the development, psychology, and evolution necessary for a child to learn how to read and be an effective reader. Parents will be given practical and important strategies to guide their children along their road to learning how to read. This class focuses on both learning and fun! This class is designed for emergent and early readers in order to reinforce basic reading skills and foster the love for reading in a fantastically fun way. children will listen to fairy tale stories, read aloud with the teacher, play learning games that focus on reading and phonics awareness, as well as arts and crafts, too! We will snack on popcorn in the afternoon as we enjoy recognizing all the fairy tale characters in the movie "Shrek". More stories and fun will follow the movie as we make stick puppets and act out the stories. Don't miss this great educational camp taught by a certified teacher. Participants are required to bring a sack lunch and a drink to camp. A morning snack of cheese crackers will be served. We will have popcorn and juice during the movie. The camp will include stories that focus on sounds, rhyme and repetition. Children will also sing phonetic songs and play games that focus on specific sounds, letter recognition, and word rhyming.
