Violin Lessons

General Information

Students must have their violin, which is appropriately sized for them, for the first class.  They may be rented or purchased at Sapp Violins in Montgomery, IL.  Their phone number is 630-906-0244.  They also do repair work.

Students will be able to purchase lesson books at their first class for $8.00.  "Essential Elements 2000 for Strings - Violin Book 1" is used.

Beginning Violin

Beginners

Level 1 (Absolute beginner)

Level 2 - prerequisite, Level 1 or evaluation by instructor

Level 3 - prerequisite, Level 2 or evaluation by instructor

Level 4 - prerequisite, Level 3 or evaluation by instructor

Basic care of violin and bow, how to hold and finger your violin in first position, plucking and bowing strings are all taught in this beginning class.  Teacher will tune students' instrument before each lesson.  After one year, diligent students should be able to read music, understand basic music theory, and play simple tunes in first position.  The simple tunes would be popular, fiddle and classical melodies.  It takes one to two years to master this level.  Recommended home practice is 5 to 15 minutes per day, 5 days per week.  This 8-week class meets one-half hour once a week.
